Back in the beginning of March 2020, a gamescom 2020 COVID-19 statement was issued that confirmed the current course of action was to behave as though the event would proceed as planned in August 2020. Now an official update has been posted suggesting the physical presence is still in flux due to the coronavirus pandemic and will be looked at again in May 2020, but the digital presence will go ahead as planned between August 25-29, 2020.
A few examples of how the gamescom 2020 covid-19 response will change things were offered. Opening Night Live, the devcom developer conferences, and a gamescom now portal will all offer opportunities for people to hear announcements and learn about games. However, more details on the digital response are still to come.
As for the physical presence, tentative plans are still in place. However, in mid-May 2020 the topic will be revisited to see if the environment and state of the pandemic would allow people to actually gather for the event in Cologne’s Koelnmesse. If it can’t happen, the official site confirmed both exhibitors and visitors will receive refunds.
gamescom 2020 will run August 25-29, 2020. If a physical presence is possible, it will be held at Cologne, Germany’s Koelnmesse.
