Starting April 20, 2020, Reggie Fils-Aime will be one of the members on GameStop’s board of directors. He will be acting as an independent member, alongside the ten other people sitting on the board.
This is one of many moves being made to attempt to revitalize GameStop. In addition to Fils-Aime joining in April 2020, the announcement confirmed that former PetSmart CEO and president James Symancyk and former Walmart US CEO and president William Simon are now immediate board members. Going forward, there will always be ten people on the board and each person will only be apart of it for about one year.
Fils-Aime was with Nintendo of America from 2003 until 2019. He first started with the company as an Executive Vice President of Sales and Marketing until being promoted to chief operating officer and president in 2006. He also previously worked for VH1, Pizza Hut, and Procter and Gamble. Since retiring from Nintendo, he has been a Cornell University Leader in Residence and done quite a bit of public speaking.
Most recently, Fils-Aime was supposed to be in charge of the SXSW 2020 Convergence Keynote It was going to be a presentation called “The Next Level: How Video Games Help You Succeed!” However, concerns about the coronavirus COVID-19 caused Austin, Texas to cancel the event this year.
