Netflix is continuing its play to capture the attention of nostalgic fans with a Transformers animated series. The project is called the Transformers: War for Cybertron trilogy. Its first chapter is titled “Siege” and will consist of a six-episode season. Hasbro uploaded the first teaser trailer for Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy: Siege on February 22, 2020.
The animated series will be produced by Rooster Teeth Studios, who also created the CG animated series RWBY and gen:LOCK. Animation will be handled by Japanese studio Polygon Pictures, who produced the CG anime adaptations of Knights of Sidonia, Blame! and a trio of Godzilla films.
The story of Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy: Siege seems to be loosely based on the video games developed by High Moon Studios. Released in 2010 and 2012 for the PlayStation 3, PC, and Xbox 360, they were called Transformers: War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron. They were set in the final days of the Transformers’ home planet, shortly before civil war between the Autobots and Decepticons destroyed it and forced them to continue their battle on Earth (the setting for the original 1980s cartoon series).
Based on the teaser trailer released by Hasbro, War for Cybertron Trilogy: Siege will strike a darker and more mature tone. Optimus Prime and the Autobots are outmatched, after a long and devastating war against Megatron and the Decepticons. Prime appears to want to prevent Megatron from obtaining the “Allspark”, an artifact that could destroy the planet outright.
Transformers: War for Cybertron Trilogy: Siege will debut exclusively on Netflix soon.
