Nioh Reaches 3 Million in Worldwide Shipments, Team Ninja Boss Wants to Create a New IP for PlayStation 5

Team Ninja announced that Nioh reached a new milestone of three million units in worldwide shipments and digital sales. [Thanks, Gamestalk.]

The three million milestone announcement comes shortly after its third anniversary on February 7. The last time we heard about Nioh‘s sales milestone was actually around the same time last year when it reached 2.5 million units shipped by its second anniversary.

Nioh, which recently celebrated its third anniversary, surpassed three million in worldwide shipments. Thank you very much to everyone who enjoyed the game. Its sequel Nioh 2 releases March 12, 2020. We’ll deliver the best ‘Sengoku death game,’ once again.”

Additionally, Team Ninja boss Yosuke Hayashi spoke with Eurogamer about wanting to create a new IP for PlayStation 5. He said in the interview that since they created Nioh for PS4, they’d like to do the same with a new IP on PlayStation 5. Hayashi-san didn’t go into many details, but he said that he believes that a new console will bring opportunities which he hopes they can jump on to make something new.

Nioh released for PlayStation 4 in North America on February 7, 2017. It followed with a European release on February 8, 2017. The Japanese version released on February 9. Lastly, the PC version released worldwide on November 7, 2017.

Nioh 2 will release for PlayStation 4 worldwide on March 13, 2020. The game is in its final phase of development.
