Mai Shiranui may be about to celebrate her “birthday,” but SNK is going to give people in Japan a chance to be the ones to get all of the presents. The company has announced a Mai Shiranui Exhibition Pop-Up Shop at The Akihabara Container in Tokyo, Japan. Between December 26, 2019 and January 6, 2020, people will be able to visit the event space to acquire different goods that not only have Mai all over them, but might be New Year’s themed or have other iconic The King of Fighters cast members on them. The announcement also pointed out that this is an “all ages” event and store. (Thanks, 4Gamer!)
This is because, in-game, Mai’s birthday falls on January 1, 1974. While that would, well, make her older than even me, the nature of video games means that she tends to remain around 19-25 years old, depending on the installment of Fatal Fury or The King of Fighters you are playing.
As for the products, they will cover a wide range. The cheapest general merchandise items are going to be 300 yen SNK Heroines pins with SD versions of all the heroines and 1,200 acrylic stands of characters from various SNK series. When it comes to Mai, the least expensive items here will be a B2 Mai poster for 1,800 yen, though the 1,980 yen fan comes close. There will also be 5,000 yen shirts featuring Mai and other characters, which are only available in large. You could also get a towel that shows Mai’s entire moveset in various fighting games or the lavish, 9,090 yen Mai Shiranui 2020 ver. Special Birthday Panel art, which was previously a SNK Online Shop exclusive item. People who spend over 6,000 yen get a Shiranui Rice (with her face on it), while a 10,000 yen purchase on Mai’s actual birthday will get people a tote bag.
If you happen to be in Tokyo between December 26th and January 6th, you could stop by between 12pm and 8pm JST to do some shopping.
