What is Proper-Permission? Exactly what it sounds like. Or to be a little more specific, it’s a newly set up fan-translation website that endeavours to take on translation projects with the blessings of the original copyright holder. Or, as their front page puts it, “This site is for people who just want to work on projects without being bothered by the threat of cease and desist letters, DMCA takedowns, and other nonsense that gets in the way of real work.”

The first project on the site is a fan-translation of Kisaragi no Hogyoku, which is an iPhone adaptation of a web novel. You can grab a translated trial version of it here.

Here’s hoping that Proper-Permission helps highlight the more productive aspects of fan-translations than the legally “grey” ones.
