An unexpected localization is happening! Acttil has picked up Billion Road Nintendo Switch and PC copies. The Monopoly-like board game will be released outside of Japan in Spring 2020. It will only be available digitally through the Nintendo eShop and Steam. An official website is even open.
In Billion Road, your goal is to become the richest person while traveling around Japan. This happens through shrew investments, landing on squares, triggering events, getting items, and encountering monsters. Though, all of these actions could also cause you to lose money. You could run into 50 monsters or find 30 items. All of your investments pay off in March, and you have to hope the properties you put money into are profitable.
There are multiple ways to play Billion Road. It is possible to play by yourself in an extended Tournament Mode that lets you try and accumulate wealth for 30 (virtual) years. If you have friends around, you can go through Skirmish Mode, between two and four people can spend 36 months attempting to be the top earner.
Both character art for a few of the Billion Road monsters and screenshots from the localized version of the game have been shared.
Billion Road was announced back during the September 2018 Nintendo Direct and is immediately available on the Nintendo Switch in Japan. It will come to the Nintendo Switch and PC in other regions in Spring 2020.
