Sega has revealed the Japanese release date for Sega Ages Space Harrier. The latest installment in the Nintendo Switch lineup will arrive on the eShop on June 27, 2019. It will be 925円 (~$8.60).
Back in September 2018, it was confirmed that Sega Ages Space Harrier would have all of the 3D Space Harrier features, like the Sega Master System’s Haya Oh boss, optional CRT effect, and widescreen support. However, the official website noted the other inclusions for this release.
One of the new features is Komainu Barrier Attack. This is a mode during which Harrier is protected by the same Komainu forcefield that the stage 17 boss is during the original game. While bullets can still harm him, this shield will protect (and attack) any other enemies that head toward him. It should make the game more manageable. However, the Komainu protection is not infallible, as the shield can be temporarily disabled the characters maintaining it are attacked. (Just like the stage 17 boss.)
The other feature lets you use a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con like an arcade controller. By heading into the Setting Menu, you can decide if motion controls are enabled. If so, then you hold a single Joy-Con vertically, as you would an arcade joystick, and move it forward, backward, left, and right to control Harrier.
Sega Ages Space Harrier will arrive on the Nintendo Switch eShop in Japan on June 27, 2019. A western release date has not yet been announced.
