Red Dead Redemption led the monthly software sales chart for a second month in a row in North America, according to the NPD Group’s report. With multiplatform sales of approximately 1.5 million units in May and another one million in June, Rockstar San Diego and Take Two’s hit title is now the best-selling game of 2010 to date.
Newly-released contenders in the top-ten include Lego Harry Potter and Toy Story 3, both multiplatform titles that did best on the Wii and DS respectively. This sort of phenomenon isn’t unprecedented — Ubisoft, too, reported a few months ago that movie tie-in, Avatar, sold best on the Wii.
Rank | Title | Sales | Release | Sys. | Publisher |
01. | Red Dead Redemption | 582.9K | May-10 | 360 | Take Two |
02. | Super Mario Galaxy 2 | 548.4K | May-10 | Wii | Nintendo |

04. | New Super Mario Bros. Wii | 200.9K | Nov-09 | Wii | Nintendo |
05. | Just Dance | 174.8K | Nov-09 | Wii | Ubisoft |
06. | Wii Fit Plus (w/ Balance Board) | – – | Oct-09 | Wii | Nintendo |
07. | Toy Story 3 | – – | Jun-10 | DS | Disney Interactive |
08. | UFC  2010: Undisputed | – – | May-10 | 360 | THQ |
09. | Lego Harry Potter: Years 1 – 4 | – – | Jun-10 | Wii | Warner Bros. |
10. | UFC  2010: Undisputed | – – | May-10 | PS3 | THQ |
The other point of interest is the jump in sales for New Super Mario Bros. Wii, and possibly Just Dance, as compared to May.
NSMB Wii clearly outsold its sub-192.3K May numbers, while Just Dance rose through the charts, overtaking God of War III, Lost Planet 2, and surprisingly, Pokémon Soul Silver, which dropped out of the top-ten for the first time since its release in March.
Additionally, NPD reported the new Tiger Woods release — Tiger Woods PGA Tour 11 — sold only 32% of what last year’s game sold in its debut month at retail.
