People who like magical girls, cute animals, cat cafes, and games like Animal Crossing and Harvest Moon may want to look into Calico. It is a game on Kickstarter seeking $29,995 to create a relaxing life simulation where players step into the shoes of a magical girl to run a cafe that has animals for customers to visit with and pet, all while also getting to find new sorts of animals to bring in, different furniture for your cafe, design new foods to serve, and use magic potions that can make animals big enough to ride.

In Calico, players follow one of two magical cuties, with Flowergirl and Heartgirl available. They are the newest residents of a town where the cat cafe has fallen into disrepair. It is now your job to rebuild the cafe, while also getting to know people in town and collecting animals that can make the cafe their home.

While Calico calls it a cat cafe, multiple types of animals are available. In initial gifs on the product page, cats, dogs, and red pandas are shown, and descriptions of the game also mention koi, owls and rabbits. Once you recruit an animal, it can be in your party or your cafe. Each animal will have energy, happiness, and trust levels, will have different demeanors, may or may not like to be held or listen to commands, will have other animals they like more or less, and have toys they like best. Animals in your party could be told to stay with you, go to the cafe, or roam the area. Also, depending on their size and type, you may be able to carry them, ride on their backs, or have one ride on your head.

The lowest amount of money a person can pledge to get a copy of Calico is $13. The expected delivery date is April 2020, and the announced platforms are the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The Kickstarter will end on April 30, 2019, and it has raised over $27,000 as of 7:30am PT on April 5, 2019.
