Patapon 3 introduces a new kind of Patapon, a superhero Patapon, which represents you. At the beginning of the game, you can pick one of three weapons – a spear, bow or sword.
I went with the spear. After picking a weapon, the legendary Patapon hero sprung back to life controlling the drums. The E3 demo had two of them, Pata (square) and Pon (circle). Just like the previous Patapon games, the superhero uses these to make a beat, which commands units to march or attack.
The part I played was very much like Patapon and Patapon 2, but Patapon 3 has new features. Sony, following the ad-hoc crazy popularized by Monster Hunter Freedom, expanded the multiplayer mode to support eight players. You can duke it out in four-on-four battles our team up for multiplayer quests. Sony even created Pata-text so networked players can chat with each other.
Monster Hunter style co-op mixed with Patapon is coming to North American PSPs this fall.
