Netflix has announced another live-action adaptation of an iconic anime series. A Cowboy Bebop live-action series will air on the streaming service. A release window has yet to be announced, as Netflix’s announcement tweet only says, “See you Space Cowboy” at the end.
However, a subsequent tweet offers some additional information about this Cowboy Bebop adaptation. Netflix says that Chris Yost, who wrote Thor: The Dark World, Thor: Ragnarok, and some episodes of the The Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Star Wars Rebels, and 2003 Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles cartoons, is the writer for the first episode. Shinichiro Watanabe, the Cowboy Bebop creator, will be a consultant on the live-action series.
This will not be Netflix’s first live-action adaptation of an anime series. Back in September 2018, a Bleach live-action movie appeared on the streaming service. It starred Sota Fukushi as Ichigo, Hana Sugisaki as Rukia, and Miyavi as Byakuya. A live-action Death Note movie appeared in August 2017, starring Nat Wolff as Light, Lakeith Stanfield as L, and Willem Dafoe as Ryuk.
This is Netflix’s second anime-related announcement this week. Previously, it revealed that Neon Genesis Evangelion would be coming to the service in 2019.
