People may notice some PlayStation Classic games might not run the way they remembered. Nine of the 20 games appearing on the plug-and-play system are using the PAL version of the game, rather than the NTSC release. This means those nine are running at 50Hz, rather than at 60Hz like the Japanese and North American versions did.
A game running at 50Hz has a slower refresh rate, which means the timing may be off and they will run slower than the 60Hz counterpart. With some games, this has a noticeable effect on the title’s performance. For example, a fighting game would perform better at 60Hz.
Sony says the nine PlayStation Classic games using the PAL versions are as follows.
- Battle Arena Toshinden
- Cool Boarders 2
- Destruction Derby
- Grand Theft Auto
- Jumping Flash!
- Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee
- Resident Evil Director’s Cut
- Tekken 3
- Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six
The PlayStation Classic will be released on December 3, 2018.
