Say hello to Konami’s new franchise: Neverdead. It’s a third-person action game set in a horror-influenced world with humans fighting monsters. You carry around a sword with a butterfly design and a bunch of guns to fend them off. While it might sound awfully generic, the announcement trailer does a decent job of showing you why that may not be the case.
While Neverdead is developed by Rebellion, Konami are eager to point out that Kojima Productions contributed to the game’s design as well. “For Neverdead, we’ve introduced some truly exciting new forms of gameplay and sword fighting, including a unique healing mechanism originally designed and conceived by a former member of Kojima Production,” said Shinji Hirano, President of Konami Digital. “Their contributions, and those of the development team, have helped forge a great new action IP to add to Konami’s vast lineup.”
The other interesting feature mentioned is “re-assembling your own body to evade death.” We’re not sure if this is merely a plot point or ties into the gameplay somehow, but it does sound cool. Capcom teaming up with western developers to create new I.P. didn’t work out too well for them. Hopefully, Konami will have better luck.
