Shortly after finding the trademark, Sega unveiled Sonic Colors. The “colors” bit refers to the Wisps, a colorful alien race that Dr. Eggman captured. These Wisps also give Sonic color powers which let the hedgehog drill through the ground or zip through a stage like a laser. Sonic Colors features an amusement park-like world and the concept of this game seems to be a speedy theme park ride you can play.

Sega says Sonic Colors seamlessly blends 2D and 3D gameplay on the Wii. The Nintendo DS version uses both screens. Sonic Colors is scheduled to come out this winter in North America.

Rights for Sonic Colors only extend to computer game programs and video game software. That narrows it down and let’s us know Sega isn’t planning a super secret line of Sonic the Hedgehog coloring books.

So what is Sonic Colors? We want to know, but will probably have to wait until E3 to find out.
