A closed beta date and release window have been revealed for Toejam & Earl: Back in the Groove, the latest entry in the series that was crowdfunded back on March 27, 2015. A two week beta will begin on July 5, 2018 for Early Access level and higher backers, followed by an eventual Fall 2018 release.
The Toejam & Earl: Back in the Groove Early Access closed beta will run from July 5-19, 2018. About 2,500 people will be able to participate. They ask people not to stream or share videos of the footage when they get their Steam codes and start playing on PCs. However, they do ask for feedback to help with balancing and debugging. A dedicated Kickstarter update will follow for backers.
As for the release, it will happen in Fall 2018 and Humanature Studios will self-publish the game. The Kickstarter update notes that Adult Swim Games had other Summer 2018 titles to launch, so the developer is self-publishing to avoid any further delays. The Nintendo Switch version is about to be submitted for certification, followed by the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions. As for console code swapping, the studio notes it will be preparing a separate update regarding the issue and notes that it does cost money to swap, due to needing to pay platform holders, and they want to try and break even.
Toejam & Earl: Back in the Groove will come to the Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC in Fall 2018.
