Dragon Quest XI’s Nintendo Switch version has been in development for quite a while, and has been confirmed to still be in development. Recently, producer Hokuto Okamoto talked about why it has been taking so long. (Thanks, Polygon!)

According to Okamoto, the reason for the extended development time is because when the Switch version of Dragon Quest XI was first announced, the development kit wasn’t finalized yet, nor were the hardware specs known. But the development team said to themselves, “We can manage this. We can put this out on the Switch.”

Dragon Quest Heroes XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age will come to the PlayStation 4 and PC in North America and Europe on September 4, 2018. The game is also in development for Nintendo Switch. It is immediately available on the PlayStation 4 and Nintendo 3DS in Japan.
