Last week, Japan had another quiet week of sales with only one release in the top-20, and it just happens to be The Caligula Effect: Overdose, the PS4 Unreal Engine 4 remake of the PS Vita RPG. Japanese sales tracker Media Create released the latest video game software and hardware sales data from the week of May 14 through May 20, 2018.

The #1 title of the week is The Caligula Effect: Overdose which sold 20,399 units on PS4. Those are respectable numbers for its debut, considering the original game sold 31,243 units on its debut on the PS Vita, which wasn’t that long ago back in June 2016 when Vita games were still selling decently on a regular basis.

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze was dethroned from the top spot after two weeks after charting at #2 with 15,452 units sold for Switch. Splatoon 2 is back at #3 with 12,646 units sold, surpassing last week’s #2 in Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2018 which charted #4 this week with 10,240 units sold on PS4.

At #5 we have Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with 10,071 units sold, followed by Kirby: star Allies at #6 with 8,392 units sold on Switch, Nintendo Labo Toy-Con 01: Variety Kit at #7 with 8,151 units sold, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild at #8 with 5,687, Super Mario Odyssey at #9 with 4,632, and at #10 it was the PS Vita version of Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2018 which sold 4,073 units in the week.

Hardware sales remained mostly the same as the week before so nothing too exciting there, but the PS4 sold 12,404 units and the PS4 Pro sold 4,536 units to combine for a total of 16,940 units between the two. The Nintendo Switch was the best-selling hardware with 33,125 units sold, making up for 56.4% of all hardware sold in the week. Going by Media Create’s numbers, the Nintendo Switch is currently at 4,228,538 units sold in Japan since its launch in March 3, 2017.
