Blizzard is bringing back Diablo III’s Anniversary Dungeon. The Darkening of Tristram event will be back for the second year in a row on January 1, 2018 and run until January 30, 2018. This temporary event is a tribute to the original Diablo. Once someone enters the dungeon, the UI changes, a pixelated rendering effect alters the appearance of the game, the characters and monsters will move differently, and the frame rate will drop to about 30FPS.
People who wish to participate in The Darkening of Tristram will need to be playing in Adventure Mode and head to The Old Ruins of Tristram. A portal can be next to a fountain and will take you to a 16 level dungeon. There are unique monsters calling back to original Diablo enemies, The Butcher’s Cleaver and Wirt’s Leg Transmogrification weapons to earn, and The Butcher and Royal Calf pets to unlock. You even get a Red Soul Shard for getting through the dungeon, acting as a callback to the original game’s Soulstone. You can even earn event-specific achievements.
Diablo III is available for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. The Darkening of Tristram event takes place in the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC versions of the game.
