In the past, Final Fantasy XIV’s producer and director Naoki Yoshida has expressed his interest on bringing the MMO to other consoles, specifically the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch, in the past. Now, in a recent interview with Finder, Yoshida once more mentioned his wish to expand the range of available platforms beyond just PC and PlayStation, noting that conversation pertaining to the possibility were ongoing.

When it comes to the challenges of creating versions for both the Switch and the Xbox One, Yoshida said the following, making mention that it could be a while before any substantial progress is made in the matter:

“We need to make sure Nintendo and Microsoft understand what we do and have them know about our online and QA regulations,” Yoshida explained. “We believe these conversations will take a long time.”

With the release of the upcoming expansion, Stormblood, PS3 will no longer be supported for Final Fantasy XIV, and whether the game will ever migrate to different platforms is still something that remains to be seen.

Final Fantasy XIV is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3.
