Hopoo Games has announced over on their Tumblr that their roguelike sci-fi action game Risk of Rain will be getting a sequel sometime in the future. What’s more, where the original game was in 2D, the upcoming Risk of Rain 2 will feature a fully 3D environment, making it the first 3D project by the developers.

The sequel has been in the works for the past sixth months, and this new post on their DevBlog gives us a look at the game’s early development. As to why Hopoo Games decided to make Risk of Rain 2 in a 3D world, the developer had the following to say:

“We think that 3D allows for much deeper design spaces and more possibilities for cool gameplay. Feelings of scale and atmosphere are also much stronger. We are really happy with the core of Risk of Rain – and we’re finding it plays even better in 3D.”
