Makoto Asada, producer of Cave’s console ports (including Deathsmiles and Mushihime-sama Futari Ver. 1.5) recently updated the company blog with an announcement that Espgaluda II Black Label would be Cave’s last region-free game for the foreseeable future. The quote in its entirety is as follows:

Thank you for the warm messages from all over the world. Espgaluda II Black Label Normal Edition is region free. But I’m afraid new games after Espgaluda II Black Label won’t be region free.

I assure you that Espgaluda II Black Label Normal Edition will be the last region free game for the time being.

Last week, in an interview with Siliconera, Asada-san revealed that Cave were focusing on overseas expansion, and that their upcoming original game for the Xbox 360 was being developed with global release in mind from the get-go. Perhaps the decision to region lock games is connected to their plans for expansion?
