Back in 2012, a browser-based game called Frog Factions was released. It constantly defied expectations, offering objectives that were constantly twisting and turning. It developed a following, which led to a Frog Factions 2 Kickstarter on March 10, 2014. It was a success, with $72,107 raised by 2,571 backers, but the game didn’t release in September 2015 as expected. Instead, an alternate reality game began, with other independent games like Firewatch, Crypt of the Necrodancer, Mini Metro, Kingdom of Loathing, and QWOP. Now, as of December 26, 2016, the jig is up. The ARG has come to an end and Frog Factions 2 revealed.
Note: spoilers for how to find and play Frog Factions 2 will follow.
Twinbeard Studios’ Frog Factions 2 is hidden within Mostly Tigerproof and Adult Swim’s Glittermitten Grove. Glittermitten Grove is a simulation game where players grow berries with fairies. While this game launched on December 13, 2016, it was only after a December 24, 2016 update was released and the Game Detectives who had been investigating the Frog Factions 2 case used a key and locked box to “launch FF2” on Christmas eve.
There are two ways to play Frog Factions 2 after acquiring Glittermitten Grove. One way is to get the special fribblesham fireworks to dig into the ground and find the door that will lead you to the other game. The other option is to actually play Glittermitten Grove until you help the fairies farm and collect seeds until you are successful enough to second door in the sky. In both cases, you’ll find and unlock Frog Factions 2.
Glittermitten Grove and Frog Factions 2 are available for Windows PCs via Steam for $19.99.
