Playtonic Games has announced over on their official website that Yooka-Laylee will launch on April 11, 2017. They also announced that preorders for both digital and physical copies of the game are available now for non-Kickstarter backers.
The developer also confirmed that, following “many challenging months,” it will no longer be possible to release a version of the game on the Wii U, citing “unforeseen technical issues.” All is not lost, however, as they assured that they will be working closely with Nintendo to bring Yooka-Laylee to the Nintendo Switch, saying they will have more details regarding these developments “early next year.”
Additionally, Playtonic Games said that any Kickstarter backers who pledged for the Wii U version of the game will have the opportunity to shift their pledge to any of the other versions free-of-charge. If not interested in the other versions, Wii U backers will have the chance to upgrade to the Nintendo Switch version when it is available, though it’s highly unlikely by the developer’s wording that the game will release for the Switch on the April 11th release date along with the other versions. Those who backed the Wii U and want a refund as opposed to the other options are recommended to contact Playtonic via the Backer messaging system over on Kickstarter.
A brand-new official trailer for the game was also revealed, this time featuring the Capital Cashino stage, which you can watch below.
Yooka-Laylee will release for the PC, Mac, Linux, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on April 11th, 2017. Details on the Nintendo Switch version are expected sometime early next year.
