Key developers of Valkyria: Azure Revolution shared the latest on the upcoming strategy RPG in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine, with some details on the Battle Demo Ver. 2.0. [Thanks, Hachima.]

Here’s a look at some of the highlights from the interview:

  • The game system had some big improvements, and its current development is going smoothly.

  • The battle system also saw some big changes, but the concept of it fights being more on the strategic side hasn’t changed.

  • The gameplay can be stopped at anytime, so those who aren’t great at action games will be fine.

  • Difficulty is still being adjusted, but since you can pretty much stop time, they’re thinking about making enemy attacks more severe, to a degree.

  • In the end, it’s still an RPG, so you should be able to fight without any problems by using minimal instructions. However, being in better battle situations provides beneficial effects for your ally, so they hope to see players try out all kinds of things in battle.

  • Currently planning to release Battle Demo Ver. 2.0 for download in October.

  • There are plans to have a demo at TGS 2016 that gives players a general idea about the game, and those who try it out will receive product codes for the demo.

  • The reason the PS Vita version was announced was because there was a lot of demand for it. They’d like to make it so that there aren’t any differences between the PS Vita and PS4 versions.

  • Cross-save will be supported between the two.

  • First-print copies will include a prequel story called “Judgment Chapter.”

Valkyria: Azure Revolution releases in Japan on January 19, 2017 for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation Vita.
