Gus, the protagonist of 4th wall-breaking RPG Glitched, becomes aware of the player’s existence after a glitch appears in his world.
In Glitched, a bizarre occurrence takes Gus’ friend Conrad away, seemingly wiping him from existence. When Gus makes contact with the glitch as well, he finds himself able to communicate with the player, relying on them for guidance in his mission to find his missing friend.
Glitched’s story is affected by the player’s decisions, personality, and the morality they show throughout the game. Called the Essence System, player actions like how they explore, who they choose to talk to, what they do in combat, and the decisions they make will lead them down one of six paths. These will all have effects on how the game’s characters respond to the player, changing the game based on how it is played.
Glitched’s turn-based combat features no random encounters, as all fights are dictated by the story and the attitude of the characters in regards to Gus’ Essence. There is no levelling or experience, as players will need to use the right equipment and party members to win. Deciding whether to kill your opponent, spare them, or find an alternative to fighting will have an effect on the game’s storyline.
Glitched is raising funding through Kickstarter, and is also running a Greenlight campaign. Players who wish to try the game before donating or voting can try out its demo, which is available on Itch.io.
