Oddworld: New ‘n’ Tasty – the remake of the original 1997 Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee – has finally arrived on PlayStation Vita. It’s almost exactly like the PS4 and PS3 versions of New ‘n’ Tasty except it has seen some vital revisions.

Mostly, these tweaks apply to the controls – the “old school” control settings are the default in the PS Vita version so that it’s more intuitive to play. Plus, time has been spent “tweaking the analog dead zones, doubling up the shoulder buttons and making sure that Abe always goes exactly where you want him to no matter what.”

The visuals have also been reworked in places so it’s easier to see everything on the smaller screen. This means removing the bloom and glow and improving readability of certain objects: “mines are now painted bright red so you can’t accidentally stumble into them without blaming yourself; well leaves are bigger so it’s clearer which way you need to go as Abe attempts his temple trials; a few camera angles have been adjusted, and so on.”

Importantly retained from the console versions of the game are the instant QuikSave and QuickLoad – “tap Select to QuikSave wherever you are in the game, and hold the same button to reload” – as well as the Trophies, including a Platinum.
