During a recent interview with popular French video game website, legendary composer Nobuo Uematsu said that he isn’t working on the upcoming remake for Final Fantasy VII.

When asked “are you going to be working on the remake of Final Fantasy VII?” he replied with “not at all.”

Considering the magnitude of this project, the remake’s composition is likely in good hands over at the folks at Square Enix. While there’s still the possibility that time might change any possible Uematsu involvement, I personally hope the company can somehow bring him in later as a supervising composer, or something along those lines. In any case, the original themes are still a good foundation for other composers to work on its arrangements.

The Final Fantasy VII Remake is in development for PlayStation 4.
