The Beautiful Dream Turns A Classic Chinese Play Into A Pretty Adventure Game

NetEase has released its pretty puzzle-adventure The Beautiful Dream on iOS. You can download it for free on the App Store.

It’s based on classic Chinese folklore and play “The Peony Pavilion.” As such, it follows a hero as he traverses the bounds of life and death to reunite with his lost love.

The art style is the big lure here, it being inspired by classic Chinese painting styles, and rendering a 2D world with flowing brushwork, and simple lines and bold colors.

However, these looks do play a role in the puzzles too, as they are based on manipulating color and shape. There are also mini-games to play throughout the journey in between absorbing the sights and emotion in the characters.
