During a recent event for Dragon Quest X, Square Enix had a little Dragon Quest Builders session, where they showed off the early stages of the game and how you’ll continue through the story by building and taking on quests.
The footage starts at the 1:27 mark of the video, where we can see the player as the female protagonist. They start out with some of the basics such as movement, breaking blocks, and placing them.
Unlike Minecraft and other similar building games, there will be helpful NPCs around to help guide you in your building adventures. They’ll also have various requests to fulfill as well. The footage shows the player fixing up a home for the NPC.
Using the material gathered, you’ll build or reconstruct towns. Once you run out of material, you’ll need to head out to the fields to get more materials to continue making more items.
The player is shown making a proper home, which requires a torch and bed. After creating an item that is needed for the request, the NPC will come running towards you to advance through the quest.
As you go through various quests, you’ll get new requests that will reward you with new recipes. This is how you’ll go through the game and learn how to make more items as you revive the lands of Alefgard.
Dragon Quest Builders will release in Japan on January 28, 2016 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and PlayStation Vita.
