There is a game-breaking bug in Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The game can crash and the save file corrupted if Quiet is used as a Buddy on either Mission 29 or 42. Initially, Konami advised players either not take Quiet along on those adventures or use a Butterfly Emblem if she does accompany the player. However, update 1.03 completely fixes the issue.

The complete Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain patch 1.03 notes are as follows.

  • Fixed an issue where under specific conditions, the game halts progression in the black screens displayed after clearing Mission 29 and Mission 42.
  • Fixed the issue where once the prior issue is triggered, the save data goes directly to the black screen and game progression is halted.
  • Fixed the issue where using the selection controls during the tutorial when first buying an FOB the game halted progression.

Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain update 1.03 is immediately available for the PlayStation 4 and Windows PC versions of the game, and will be released soon for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. It is about a 78MB download on the PC, and a 435MB download on PS4.
