Last week, Masaya Games said that they’ll soon announce a new game that fans have been waiting for, and the title in question was revealed as a new Langrisser title for Nintendo 3DS in this week’s issue of Famitsu magazine. [Thanks, Otakomu]
This will make it 15 years since the Langrisser series has seen a new title, and the magazine reports that the new game will release this summer .
While Satoshi Urushihara worked on many of the Langrisser and its spiritual successor series, Growlanser, it looks like Masaya are going with a different look this time around. Characters for the new Langrisser are going to be designed by Hiroshi Kaieda. You can check out some of his artwork on his website.
The new Langrisser game takes place in a world where most of the land has been flooded by water, and the story is about a young man with the Sacred Sword Excalibur, who is looking to reunite with a girl he’s been separated from since childhood, and must fight an empire’s army to do so.
Unlike past Langrisser titles, there are hints of there being some steampunk elements in the game, so it sounds like it may have more of a futuristic touch, rather than the orthodox fantasy-style we’ve come to know from the earlier Langrisser titles.
As far as the battle system goes, battles will be fought 10-on-10Â with super-deformed 3D characters serving as units. The units consist of Infantry, Cavalry, and Archers. More details are expected to be revealed in the near future.
