Formula Fusion, an upcoming spiritual successor to Wipeout, is early in development at indie studio R8 Games. In the near future, R8 plan to launch a Kickstarter campaign for the game, but prior to that, they’ve published a pitch video stating their goals.

R8 say that PC will be the lead platform for the game, and that the plan is to release it via Early Access in June 2015. The full version of the game is planned for release sometime in March 2016, if all goes according to plan.

Formula Fusion, R8 say, will adopt a visual style similar to Blade Runner. The game is being described as an edgy, “near-future” anti-gravity racer, rather than far-future sci-fi. The “formula” in the title refers to Formula 1 racing, which the developers say has been influential during Formula Fusion’s development, in terms of craft design as well as the team aspect of F1 racing.

Features being planned for Formula Fusion include: 21 tracks, 2-player team co-op, craft customization, a degree of track customization, 5 different race craft classes, weapons, and more. You can learn more about what features the team is thinking of in the video above.
