Shovel Knight has been out for a few months now, but developer Yacht Club aren’t done with the game yet. Speaking with Nintendo of Europe, director Sean Velasco discussed add-on content for the game that is currently being prepared for release.

“Every three to four months, we want to drop a new update after the initial [European] release of the game,” Velasco confirmed to NOE. “We’re going to have playable campaigns featuring Plague Knight, King Knight and Spectre Knight, in their own campaign with their own story. The gameplay will be 95% the same, but it’s going to be a big thing.”

In addition to the new playable characters, Shovel Knight will also get a gender-swap mode, whereby all the male characters will become female, and vice-versa. Additionally, the Wii U version will get an exclusive 4-player couch battle mode. Most of these features were initially announced back when Shovel Knight’s Kickstarter campaign concluded.

Velasco says that the Europe release of Shovel Knight is coming “really, really soon”. The game will include English, French, Italian, German and Spanish text right from its initial release, and even more languages will be added through patches at a later point.
