The patch enables online play and adds a feature called Conquest which kicks off on September 15, the Monday after Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS launches in Japan. From time to time, when you play a "With Anyone" battle online you’ll trigger a Conquest Battle. The winning brawler’s character will earn points for the online conquest chart.

There are only three characters in a conquest at any time, so in this example above Mario, Link, and Bowser are in a conquest event. If you play as Mario and win, Mario’s conquest rating will go up for all players. Everyone that earned points for the winning conquest character will earn prizes like customization items or in-game gold.
