Campo Santo has released the first trailer and batch of screenshots for its first-person mystery game Firewatch. It’s worth taking a look just to see the sunset tipping over the canopy of the trees.
Set in the Wyoming wilderness, Firewatch has you playing as Henry who has escaped the hustle and bustle of his previous life to become a fire lookout. The summer he starts is especially hot and dry, which makes the chances of seeing smoke in the forest very likely. He, and everyone else, is on edge.
The game kicks off when Henry sees something strange from the lookout tower and heads off to find out what it is. He’s alone, and the only contact he has is Delilah, who’s on the other end of a handheld radio. It’s not long before Henry starts to question what’s happening to him.
Campo Santo writes: “You’ll explore a wild and unknown environment, facing questions and making interpersonal choices that can build or destroy the only meaningful relationship you have.”
The trailer that you can watch above doesn’t let slip any of the game’s mystery, but you do get a chance to see the kinds of challenges you and Henry will face. Abseiling into dark caverns being one of them.
Firewatch is the debut game from Campo Santo, which is a studio comprised of people who previously worked on Mark of the Ninja, Brutal Legend, The Cave, Bioshock II, and The Walking Dead: Season 1.
The plan is to release Firewatch on Windows, Mac, and Linux in 2015. Campo Santo would like to bring it to as many platforms as possible with the help of first-time publisher Panic Inc., and will announce more when it can do so.
Check out the game’s website for more information. There are a few more screenshots from the game below.
