We recently reported that robot collecting RPG Medabots 8: Kabuto and Medabots 8: Kuwagata are in development for the Nintendo 3DS. Famitsu gives us a first look at the game, and a few details on a couple of characters and the story, which seems to have a detective theme.
While details on the story are scant, Famitsu reveals that the story revolves around a “detective” motif, and will have you investigate various cases around the new 3D world.
The scenario is being written by Yukinori Kitajima, known for working on the Hamatora anime and the stories for the Senran Kagura games. The characters designs are being handled by Kamichi Shindo.
The protagonist of Medabots 8 is named Solt, a young boy who decided to become a Medabots detective after his father passed away due to an incident involving Medabots.
Anis is a member of the Laurel Investigation firm. She’s Solt’s senior, and is an intelligent girl with a knack for processing information.
While the report doesn’t go too much into details on the game’s battle system, it reveals that the “robattles” will involve three-on-three fights, and objectives such as “whichever team destroys the leader’s head first wins”.
Additionally, Medabots 8 adds new features that allow players to pick countermeasures when attacking and being attacked by enemies. More details will be revealed at a later date.
Medabots 8: Kabuto and Medabots 8: Kuwagata will be released on August 28, 2014 for Nintendo 3DS.
