NCSoft, publisher of video games such as Wildstar and Guild Wars 2, have just pumped in 5 billion won (about US$4.8 million) into comic site Lezhin Comics. The move is part of a strategic investment into Lezhin’s IP and long-term cooperation, NCSoft said in a press release.
Lezhin Comics is one of Korea’s biggest names right now, after bursting onto the stage in June last year. It now packs in some 230 webtoons and 226 authors. Lezhin itself is also said to have cumulative sales of over 3.5 billion won in the last 10 months, and some 900,000 members.
Lezhin expects to use this cash injection to strengthen its artist cooperation. Further, it appears that they’re looking to use this springboard to get into the global market. According to the press release, they’re also going to use this to accelerate plans for transmedia strategies.
Lezhin Comics is available on PC, iOS and Android.
