For those who always wanted to play Dragon Quest Monsters but don’t happen to own a Nintendo 3DS, there’s always Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light. The game was released late January and in less than a month has surpassed more than 3 million downloads. It is, of course, a free-to-play title for smartphones.

Players have to capture and find monsters to add to their parties, sacrifice them to gain experience and then evolve troops into stronger versions. Super Light is kind of like the DS and 3DS Dragon Quest Monsters games, although not as in-depth.

The game does have a little bit of an RPG element by having players wander down dungeons by selecting which direction to go in, with treasures to be found or encounters to be had. There are quests to complete and events rotate regularly for players to partake in. There’s also talk of a future player-versus-player mode pitting your monsters against other player’s parties.

If you sign up now you’ll be able to take advantage of the special promotion going on to celebrate the download milestone with some free items such as metal slime maps.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Super Light is available on iOS and Android.
