Yacht Club Games’ Mega Man-inspired platformer, Shovel Knight, has reached its alpha stage this week, the studio has announced. “Alpha” in this case means that the game is fully playable from start to finish with all features implemented.

The next step is moving towards the beta phase, Yacht Club say. This means addressing bugs, playtesting, polish, balance, reiterating, localization, certification and more. They add that the reason the process is taking longer than expected is because the game “got a lot bigger” than originally intended.

A new trailer for Shovel Knight can be viewed above. The game is in development for PC, Nintendo 3DS and Wii U.
