OK, this post was going to be about how Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca’s Marvelous Mysterious Key will handle StreetPass. But while writing this piece, I saw these two shots of Iru and Luca. And they are ADORABLE. So before we get into the meat of it, dawwww with me.

OK, back to business. One of the cool things people enjoy about Dragon Quest Monsters is going around picking fights with strangers’ teams. And in the sequel, Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca’s Marvelous Mysterious Key, there will be a Wi-Fi enabled battle mode that lets players either send their party out to try and stomp foes or download other player’s parties to fight by themselves.

For StreetPass, though, we’ve got some details on a new special item as well as what you can gain from ensuring your party is ready for StreetPass fights.

Other than fighting, you’ll possibly be able to scout over one of your opponents’ listed monsters. This could be a great way to obtain some of the rarer or harder-to-capture foes. Also, as your wins go up, you’ll get prizes commiserate with the win total.

In keeping with the game’s title, there’s also a mysterious Dream Egg item that works only if you hang around in StreetPass. This eggy piece can be found and then placed on display during StreetPass. After garnering enough StreetPass hits, it’ll hatch into a random monster. You might get lucky and find a ultra rare, or you might end up with.. Dracky.

You can also customize how your avatar—either Iru or Luca—will look by dressing them with various costumes. You can then have them give a short personalized message like “I’m coming in~” to greet foes. Players can also view your status card, which shows how far along to completion you are in capturing the various monsters such as the slime families and such, as well as items and other miscellaneous stats.

Dragon Quest Monsters 2: Iru and Luca’s Marvelous Mysterious Key will be out for Nintendo 3DS February 6 2014.
