I could talk about what’s great and what’s not about the new Playstation 3 Home set up, but I’ll let you decide for yourself. Past the break are a handful of videos from Phil Harrison’s keynote speech this morning.
This is the first video where Home is shown and it gives an idea about the avatar creation system. There is one part of the video where everyone is laughing and the reason why is because instead of making the avatar saying “hi” the presenter typed “ho” in the virtual keyboard.
This clip shows some of the casual games you can play with your avatar. Bowling, pool and an arcade game are demonstrated.
In this video you can see what the customized spaces look like. Each player can create and maintain their virtual apartment, sort of like the Sims. Some neat features shown are the (indestructible) virtual Sony TV, actually plays video from the hard drive and photo frames can display saved pictures.
The final clip is from the trophy room. Each person can choose which 3D trophies they earned by playing games to display. You can also browse through all collected trophies and trophies for games you do not own. Something interesting to note is that there are LocoRoco trophies. Is Sony hinting something?
Home is set to be in beta in April 2007 and the final version is scheduled to come out in fall 2007. After seeing Phil Harrison talk about Home, what are your thoughts on it?
