Sony have shared a look at the upcoming CG Heavenly Sword film, scheduled to debut in spring 2014. The film will be released digitally worldwide, and will also see a theatrical release in certain regions.

Based on the 2007 PlayStation 3 launch game by Ninja Theory, Heavenly Sword tells the story of Nariko on a quest for revenge against King Bohan, to avenge her clan. Nariko uses the Heavenly Sword to aid her on her quest, but as the weapon isn’t meant to be wielded by her, it sucks away at her life all throughout.

The Heavenly Sword movie will use existing assets from the PlayStation 3 game, production studio Blockade Entertainment reveal. Blockade add that a positive reception to the film at the Cannes Film Festival resulted in multiple buyers interested in releasing the film theatrically in their markets.
