The upcoming visual novel fighter, Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax, recently featured a location test at the Club Sega Shinjuku Nishiguchi-ten, where six of the game’s characters were made playable to the attending fans. The folks from 4Gamer tested out the characters and shared some details on their play-styles.
Shana (Shakugan no Shana)
Shana has many fighting game-like moves, such as fire-based projectiles, aerial attacks that can easily be incorporated into combos, and dash attacks using her katana. She’s considered an all-rounder, who can easily fight her way around any situation. 4Gamer recommends Shana for novice players for those reasons.
By pressing the B and C buttons, you can use her special attack that has a Roman Cancel-like feature, that allows you to stop regular and special attacks, midway through. This feature will be handy for coming up with nifty combos.
Asuna (Sword Art Online)
Asuna doesn’t have any projectiles, but makes up for it with various dash attacks and multi-hitting attacks. Just as her nickname “Lightning Flash” implies, she’s a speedy character who uses her special attacks to dominate close and mid-ranged combat; however, she doesn’t have aerial dashes, so she might have trouble approaching opponents during long-ranged fights.
Her special attack is actually a mid-ranged unblockable grab move, where she pulls off a powerful uppercut. This attack and others make Asuna a speedy close-ranged fighting specialist.
Misaka Mikoto (A Certain Scientific Railgun)
The Electromaster Misaka uses the electric and magnetic force attacks that she’s known for using. Not only does she use electricity with her special attacks, but they will also be a part of her regular attacks, giving her an exceptional advantage in attack range. Using her “Extend Action” ability, she can also use electricity to change the range of her attacks, making it tougher for opponents to back away.
Additionally, she’ll be able to use her magnetic forces to break through guards. Her super special attack will involve the use of her famous Railgun.
Kirino Kosaka (My Little Sister Can’t Be This Cute)
While Kirino is normally a middle school student, she uses her athletic abilities and powers from various cosplay to fight in Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax. Her special attacks consist of various items she throws at opponents, including dash and sliding moves.
Unlike the other characters, she’s not exactly known for being a “fighter,” so she uses a variety of moves to throw off opponents, which 4Gamer considers to be quite fun.
Kuroyukihime (Accel World)
Accel World’s heroine, Kuroyukihime, will be appearing in her black Avatar dress, along with her Brain Burst Avatar “Black Lotus,” which will be incorporated in her technical play-style as an overall offense-focused character.
Since a lot of her attacks will involve using Black Lotus, she’ll have plenty of high damage output to go with long-ranged attacks; however, since she won’t have an air-dash, rushing opponents won’t be her best trait. Her specialty lies within fighting in mid-range combat, and her special attack will have some kind of stat boosting effect.
Shizuo Heiwajima (Durarara!!)
The “strongest man in Ikebukuro” is a grab/throw character that puts emphasis on position. Shizuo is known for his power, and will be demonstrating it by using traffic signs as regular attacks to hit nearby opponents.
As a projectile, he’ll be able to throw vending machines, and will actually have some unexpected long-ranged attacks. Similar to Asuna and Kuroyukihime, Shizuo won’t have air-dashes, so he’ll have to rely on making opponents approach him instead.
