Atelier Rorona: The Alchemist of Arland is Gust’s first PlayStation 3 game and their first 3D game. For a freshman effort Atelier Rorona is impressive. Atelier Rorona looks just as good any other cel-shaded RPG out today, if not better. In typical Gust style event expressions are shown with up close character portraits. Larger and more detailed portraits, but still static portraits. It would be nice to see Gust take a stab at that for their next game.
Aside from the huge presentation change (visuals plus full voice acting) Atelier Rorona has a twist on the typical RPG plot. The Kingdom of Arland isn’t in peril. The world isn’t ending and you aren’t the only savior. Atelier Rorona is supposed to be a more relaxing RPG where players can spend time hunting for synthesis items. Depending on the actions you take you will get one of the game’s multiple endings when you beat it.
Currently, Atelier Rorona is only slated for release in Japan on June 25, but this should see an overseas release one way or another. Probably, with NIS America as the publisher.
Rororina Fryxell is a carefree girl who dreams of owning a cake shop.
Cuderia von Feuerbach is Rorona’s impatient childhood friend.
Lionela Heinze is a traveling puppet master.
Astrid Zxes is Roronoa’s teacher and caretaker after her parents became ill.
Hom is Rorona’s helpers.
