In Drakengard 3, you’ll be playing as Zero, the ultra-violent Utautai who has made it her goal to kill all five of her sisters in order to be the last one standing. She’ll have the ability to increase her parameters to enter an “Excited State” and ultimately the “Utautai Mode” by killing enemies and soaking herself in their blood.
Square-Enix’s latest update shares a look at the weapons she’ll be using to achieve her goal.
As previously reported, the weapon-changing system has evolved in Drakengard 3, where players will no longer have to stop attacking and will be able to switch out weapons in the middle of the action. This new function that allows you to perform combos while switching weapons adds a new dimension to the Drakengard series, as you’ll now have to be quicker about reading situations and enemy types in order to switch out to the corresponding weapons.
Weapons will also have a progressive feature that increases their parameters and allows you to perform more powerful attacks as you level up. The latest update also gives us a closer look at details surrounding sword and spears.
While swords aren’t known for being the most powerful weapon, they are the most balanced in versatility and easiest to use. In Drakengard 3, they will have different attacks, such as various forward ranged attacks, whirlwinds and upper-slashes, providing players with a good balance of attack speed and range.
Attacking with swords makes it easier to perform combos and connect hits, thus allowing you to accumulate Zero’s tension gauge quicker, making it easier to get into her vicious Excited State mode.
When it comes to ranged attacks, spears shine above all other weapons for close-ranged combat. They don’t have the speed that swords boast, but make up for it with heavier attacks, better range and the ability to perform dash attacks.
Enemies with giant shields may be able to give sword-wielders a hard time, but they’re no match for the spear’s power, which can easily destroy their defense.
It wouldn’t be a Drakengard game without having a dragon flying around and causing havoc on the battlefield. In addition to the new weapon change system, Drakengard 3 will be allowing you to call your dragon out during ground battles.
Not much more has been detailed regarding how the dragons will be helping out during fights on land, but Square Enix will be revealing more, including details on air battles, in the near future.
Drakengard 3 is slated for release on October 31 for PlayStation 3.
