Sengoku Basara 4 will be about the making of the Sengoku period, and will be taking place in the Muromachi period, an era that took place prior to the events of the series. The game’s first trailer gives us a look at some action surrounding the key military commanders and others.

The trailer starts out with a glance at the fateful encounter between Masamune Date and Yoshiteru Ashikaga, followed by a quick transition of Masamune meeting Katsuie Shibata, who has fallen to despair after losing everything. Masamune states his distaste towards the look in Katsuie’s eye, as it reminds himself of his left eye which was left over on “that day,” when his right eye lost its glimmer.

Katsuie who is now a shell of his former self, and doesn’t show any emotion. He is simply going by orders given to him as part of Nobunaga Oda’s army and states that he doesn’t have the right to dream about the future. He appears to be baffled when the gamble-loving Sakon Shima pays attention to him.

Sakon will be one of Sengoku Basara 4’s new characters. He’s a devout follower of Mitsunari Ishida and will be going wild on the battlefield with his acrobatic abilities. Mitsunari who is extremely loyal to his lord, Hideyoshi Toyotomi, will be showing a different side of himself as a vassal, prior to his lord’s death.

Yoshiteru Ashikaga is shown early in the trailer and again towards the end, but we don’t get to see him in action. So far, we know that he’ll be the highest ranked character we’ve seen in the series according to a recent interview with the game’s producer and director. He’ll be a formidable foe who uses a scepter that can change its form into those of other weapons.

Sengoku Basara 4 is slated for release in early 2014 for PlayStation 3.
