The biggest problem with the Ouya hardware is the controller. It’s bulky and the face buttons can get stuck in the shell. Here’s some good news – you don’t have to use the Ouya controller to play games with it. As long as you’re not playing a game that requires the touchpad, you can use a PlayStation 3 controller.
Thanks to these instructions on the Ouya forum, it’s easy to set up too. All you need to do is plug a PS3 controller into the Ouya using a mini USB cable and press the home button on the PS3 controller when the Ouya is on. Ta-da! Now you’re playing with PS3 power, but you’re tethered to the tiny Ouya console. If you want to go wireless, shut down the Ouya and unplug the PS3 controller. Turn the system back on and press the home button on the PS3 controller. You’re all set to play Final Fantasy III, Towerfall or the Chronoblade demo.
