Unity Technologies and Sony have announced a partnership that will make the company’s Unity tools available on all PlayStation platforms.

Unity tools are already compatible with the PlayStation 3, but this agreement will see them developed for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita and PS Mobile, along with Sony’s future cloud services.

This is significant because Unity is one of the most widely-used tools for the development of videogames today, and is employed by both smaller indie developers as well as larger software publishers across various kinds of projects.

Sony aren’t the only console company trying to court Unity developers either. Nintendo, too, are going to be making Wii U development easier by allowing developers to use tools like Unity, HTML5 and JavaScript on Wii U. Nintendo will demonstrate their efforts to bring these technologies to Wii U at GDC next week.
