Red Thread Games have released a new developer diary video for Dreamfall Chapters: The Longest Journey, talking about the concept of “game spaces”—environments that the player can explore freely, going off the beaten path within the context of a linear story, giving them the chance to discover things they otherwise wouldn’t, if they were to pursue just the game’s story goals.

Additionally, the video also reveals the second of the game’s three playable characters. In addition to Zoë Castillo, you’ll also get to play as Kian Alvane, a returning character from the previous game, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey.

Note that the video also contains spoilers for the previous game, Dreamfall: The Longest Journey from 6:36 and 6:56, so you might want to skip that bit if you haven’t played the previous game in the series and intend to do so.
